Success story

Reactive redesign of the shopping cart

Problem

The shopping cart is the first step in the sales funnel of any ecommerce platform. Increasing its capacity has a direct impact on the number of conversions in the sales process. In this project, the existing cart was part of the legacy platform, whose structural limitations stopped it from absorbing the volume of requests already in play. The challenge was to design a new architecture able to handle that volume without compromising the user experience or system stability, and on a very tight timeline.

Solution

We took on the challenge of completely reimagining the shopping-cart project inside the client’s microservices ecosystem. After identifying the structural limitations of the previous system, we designed from scratch a new microservices stack with a reactive architecture. It became the first stack of this kind put into production inside the company — a milestone that set a precedent for the rest of the platform’s modernisation.

Results

  • A multiplication of the system’s load capacity.

  • Improved cart response times.

  • It laid the technical foundations for the rest of the ecommerce platform’s modernisation.

  • It absorbed traffic peaks without incidents, boosted online sales and raised the digital shopping experience, consolidating the company as a technology reference in its sector.
